Physical Reminders

To use a physical reminder, choose an item that will prompt you to practice your Plan. It's important that you follow these two guidelines:

  • The most important thing about the item you choose as your physical reminder is that you will think of your plan EACH TIME you see that item. Otherwise, you'll get used to the reminder, and it won’t last for long.
  • Choose only items you see 1-4 times a day. Not more, not less.

Examples:
- Your perfume
- Your toothbrush
- Your mirror
- The buttons of your microwave
- Ceiling above your bed
- The back of your phone
- Your fridge
- The light switch of your room
- An item on your pillow (it should be moved somewhere temporary when you go to sleep)

Examples related to computers:
- The back of your laptop
- Your laptop charger (only if you see it 1-4 times a day)
- Renaming a file or folder in your computer. A suitable instruction might be to rename the file each time you encounter it.
- Use an application that pops up notes each time you enter a website. Try this one.

Examples related to doors and drawers:
- A drawer where you keep your personal stuff
- A drawer where you keep your cutlery
- A drawer where you keep sweets
- The door of my wardrobe, from the inside
- The handle of your door, from the outside
- The handle of your door, from the inside
- The handle of your car door, from the inside

Examples of items that we often take outside home:
- Your shoes
- Your credit card
- Your wallet
- Your house keys
- Your watch's buckle

Marking
After choosing your item, mark it item in a noticeable way, for instance:
