VIVID for the MA in Happiness Studies

Welcome!

This guide is intended to help you get to know VIVID, its features, and all of the ways it can work for you. 

We recommend opening this guide on your computer.

Getting started

Download VIVID:

Setting up:

1. Please check your Centenary email to find your VIVID account login details and have them ready.

If VIVID’s email went to your spam folder, please mark it “not spam” to make sure that future emails from VIVID directly to your inbox. 

2. Open the VIVID app. You’ll be asked by your phone to allow VIVID to send you notifications, click allow. 

Enabling notifications is essential for VIVID to work properly! 

3. Select “Sign in with email”

4. Enter your Centenary email address and the password provided. 

You must use your Centenary email address in order to log in successfully.

5. When you sign in, you’ll immediately be taken to the “Today” tab, where you can see the practices scheduled for today. 

6. The video below presents practicing in VIVID.
When you've finished practicing, remember to click "I did it!"

Good to know: The “Today” tab is the only section of the app you need to use! 

The Today tab is where you will do all of your practices for the day.
You will be taken here automatically every time you open the app, and you can get there by clicking on the calendar icon 📅 on the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. 

That’s it - you’ve completed the set up! 

  • You will now receive notifications to practice the MA 505 plan. 
  • We highly recommend opening this guide again on September 4th, for the additional setup steps.

Additional setup on September 4th

On September 4th (Eastern Time), you will find additional practices in VIVID. Your daily practices now consists of:

  • In your morning routine: Breathwork, Daily Reminders, Specific Reminders, Words of Wisdom.
  • In your evening routine: Mindfulness Techniques, Daily Movement.
  • By specific times: Daily Movement (3 additional practices), Mini Reminder, 4-7-8 Breathing.

Please read the next two guidelines on September 4th:

1. Making sure you’re on the right day of practice

  • Most of the practices say at the beginning “day X, week Y”. Each time you practice, make sure you’re on the right day of practice.
    Usually you’ll get the right day of practice, but it wouldn’t be the case if:
  • You’ve skipped a day of practicing in VIVID.
  • You’ve accidently practiced twice on the same day. 
  • If you realize you are on the wrong day, please check the course syllabus to see what day you should be on today (for example: Week 5, Day 6).
  • If you’re on the wrong day, follow the steps described in this video to correct it:

The steps described in this video
  1. Open VIVID and you’ll be taken to the “Today” tab, represented by a calendar icon 📅 on the menu bar.
  2. For each practice you need to update to get to the right day, click “Practice” 
  3. Once the practice opens (you’ll see the practice instructions and “I did it!” button at the bottom of the screen) click on the three dots in the top right corner
  4. Select either “+1 Next Playlist Practice” to advance a practice (ex from Day 3 to Day 4) or “-1 Previous Playlist Practice” to go back a practice (ex from Day 6 to Day 5) 
  5. Repeat this as many times as needed to get to the proper day’s practice. 
  6. You will need to do this for each of the following practices after skipping days:
    • In the "Morning Routine": Breathwork, Words of Wisdom
    • In the "Evening Routine": Mindfulness Techniques, Daily Movement 4
    • Under "Time Reminders": Daily Movement 1, 2 & 3

2. Setting up your Daily, Mini, & Specific Reminders

Practicing your Daily, Mini, & Specific Reminders, requires customization of your ideal-self statements. 

Follow this video to learn how to customize them:

The steps described in this video
  1. Open VIVID and you’ll be taken to the “Today” tab, represented by a calendar icon 📅 on the menu bar.
  2. Here is where each practice you need to edit is located:
    • In the "Morning Routine": Daily Reminder, Specific Reminder.
    • Under "Time Reminders": Mini Reminder.
  1. Click “Practice” next to either the Morning Routine or Mini Reminder. 
  2. While on the Practice screen (and after reaching the correct practice if you’re in the Morning Routine) simply click the pencil icon ✏️in the top right corner of your screen to enter editing mode.
  3. Click on the pencil icon ✏️in the field you would like to edit.
  4. A pop-up will appear with the text you selected to edit. Click on the text to open your keyboard and make your changes. 
  5. When you’re done editing the text, click save. You can repeat this process to edit multiple fields.
  6. When you’ve finished editing the practice, click “Done” and you’ll be taken back to the practice you were doing. 
  7. Repeat this until you’ve set up all three practices. 

That’s it - you’ve completed the set up for this course! 

Troubleshooting

Please try these 3 steps before checking the FAQs below:

1. If you end up away from the Today tab (📆) or encounter a technical problem:

Click the back button (←) at the top left of the screen until you see the bottom navigation bar:

2. Closing the app and reopening it will solve most technical problems (this means closing the app, unlike moving it to the background. If you aren’t sure how, click here for iPhone or click here for Android). 


3. Check if you're using the most updated version of the app (iPhone, Android)

How can I make sure notifications are set up on my phone?
  • Open VIVID on your phone
  • Click on the personal icon (or profile image) in the top right corner of the screen
  • In the menu bar that pops up, select "Settings" (the second option)
  • Click “Go to app settings” (the second option
  • You’ll be taken to the permissions and settings for VIVID on your phone
  • Make sure that notifications for VIVID are set to “allow”
I accidentally started another plan from the Discover tab, how can I remove it?
  • Open VIVID and click on the home icon 🏠in the menu bar on the bottom of the screen to navigate to “My Plans”
  • On the “My Plans” screen, click on the name of the plan you’d like to remove
  • On the next screen, Plan Details, click on the three dots in the top right corner
  • A pop-up menu will appear. Click “Discard plan” to remove the plan
  • You’ll be asked if you are sure you want to delete this plan, simply select “Delete anyway” 
How can I change the notification times for my practices?

For your Morning or Evening Routine:

  • Open VIVID and you'll be taken to the “Today” tab
  • Click on the time (ex 8:00am) to the left of where it says “Morning Routine” or “Evening Routine” to begin editing
  • On the next screen, click “set” next to “Occurs daily at [time]”. 
  • Use the clock dials to select your preferred new time or click on the keyboard icon in the bottom right corner to type your preferred time. When you’re done, click “OK” in the bottom right of the pop-up.
  • Lastly, use the back arrow < on the top left of the screen to return to the Today tab

For practices under "Time Reminders":

  • Open VIVID and you'll be taken to the “Today” tab
  • Click on the time (ex 8:00am) to the left of the practice you would like to edit the notification for (ex: Daily Movement 1).
  • On the next screen, click "set" next to "At [time]"
  • Use the clock dials to select your preferred new time or click on the keyboard icon in the bottom right corner to type your preferred time. When you’re done, click “OK” in the bottom right of the pop-up.
  • Click "save" in the top right corner
I’d like to do one less daily movement practice a day
  • {We'll add a video explaining. I don't think we need the steps written down here.}
My evening routine used to have two practices, why does it have only a single daily movement practice?

The Mindfulness Techniques practice isn't meant to be practiced on Sundays (according to your local time).

I forgot my password - how can I reset it?
  • Click on your profile image (or the personal icon, if you have no image) in the top right corner 
  • In the menu bar that pops up, click “Sign out” (the last option) 
  • You’ll be asked if you are sure you want to sign out, simply select “Sign out” to continue 
  • From login screen, select “Sign in with email”
  • Enter your Centenary email address and click “Continue with password”
  • On the next screen (“Welcome back”) click “Forgot password” underneath the Sign in button
  • An email will be sent to your Centenary to help you reset your password
