How to use your metrics

After measuring your progress three times using scientific metrics, VIVID will visualize your progress. The instruction below shows a couple of guidelines for best using these metrics.

The purpose of these metrics is to help you answer questions like:

  • Do I need to improve my plan?
  • Is this plan working for me at all?
  • Do I need to create a new plan instead / in addition to this plan?

Limitations of metrics

  • These metrics aim to support your decisions, but shouldn’t be your only consideration, as they have some limitations. For instance, a specific metric might not fit you - you might be intuitively interpreting one of its questions differently than most people (which is not good or bad, it only means that this metric doesn’t fit you).
  • Another limitation is that many factors contribute to these metrics. It means that if you see a trend (or a lack of trend), which doesn’t fit your intuitions, you might need to wait a couple of weeks for this metric to be more reliable.
  • Stay calm if you notice a decline - it might be temporary. It might also mean you could improve your plan. We recommend trusting your intuitions and experimenting.

Your plan levels

We recommend using your “plan level” as another metric. Treat level 10 as “this plan and mindset come naturally to me now”, and level 1 as the furthest point from there, and freely tweak your progress over time.

Making decisions using your metrics

Here is a series of questions that could help you make decisions based on your metrics:

  • Am I persisting well with my practice?
If the answer is not, your metrics might not reflect your progress well enough. You might want to change the prompts of this plan before make decisions based on your metrics.
  • Does the trend I see fit my intuitions about my progress?
Taking the caveats above, if you don’t feel like this trend fits your intuitions about your progress, you might either need to wait for a couple weeks, or add another metric.
  • Is my trend rising?
If the answer is no (given the caveats above), then we recommend doing one of the following actions that increase the effect of your plan:
    - Changing the instructions of your plans (you can use our instructions presets)
    - Adding an buddy
    - Adding elaborations for your plan (using the “elaborate” button while practicing)
